Tennis: Rafael Nadal forfeits the Montreal Masters 1000

The Spaniard, suffering from a “little pain”, has announced that he will not be playing in Montreal from August 6 to 14.

The Spaniard Rafael Nadal announced on his Twitter account on Friday that he would not participate in the Masters 1000 in Montreal due to a “little discomfort” felt “after the training session”.

The Mallorcan has not played in a tournament on the ATP Tour since his withdrawal before the Wimbledon semi-final against Nick Kyrgios, due to an abdominal tear preventing him from serving properly.

“Everything has been going well for the past few weeks. Four days ago I started to train to serve and yesterday, after the training session, I felt a little discomfort that was still present today,” explained Nadal on the social network.

Titled at the Australian Open and Roland-Garros despite recurring pain due to necrosis of the scaphoid bone in his left foot, “Rafa” still had an excellent level of play on the London lawn.

“I have to be careful at this stage and think about my health”, detailed on Twitter the Spaniard, who holds the record for the number of Grand Slam tournaments won (22).

Nadal has still not taken part in a single event since the start of the American tour, which traditionally offers several hard-court tournaments in preparation for the US Open (August 29-September 11), which he still hopes to play.
